Aaron Judge Tops Cal Raleigh And Earns Third Al Mvp Award In Msn
Updated on: November 14, 2025 / 12:19 AM EST / CBS/AP In the American League, Aaron Judge became the New York Yankees' fourth three-time Most Valuable Player winner, edging Seattle's Cal Raleigh with 17 first-place votes to 13 for the switch-hitting catcher. The vote was the closest for an MVP since the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout topped Houston's Alex Bregman by 17-13 in 2019. Judge, who won the AL award in 2022 and 2024, joined Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle as three-time MVPs with the Yankees. The 33-year-old outfielder led the majors with a .331 batting average and 1.144 OPS while hitting 53 homers. When asked about his place in MLB and Yankees lore, Judge acknowledged he's in rare company.
For the second straight season, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge has been named the American League's Most Valuable Player. Judge beat out Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez for the award, the BBWAA announced Thursday night. As the voting results show, it was a close race between Judge and Raleigh: This is Judge's second straight MVP and the third of his career (he also won in 2022). He is the 13th player with three MVPs. Only Barry Bonds (seven) and Shohei Ohtani (four), who won this year's National League MVP, have more.
Judge is the fourth Yankee with three MVPs, joining Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio (1939, 1941, 1947), Yogi Berra (1951, 1954-55), and Mickey Mantle (1956-57, 1962). He joins Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers superstar who won National League MVP. Judge slashed .331/.457/.688 this season and led baseball in batting average by 20 points, on-base percentage by 58 points, and slugging percentage by 66 points. His 53 home runs were second in the AL behind Raleigh's 60. Judge's 9.7 WAR was 1.7 wins better than the next best player, per Baseball Reference's calculations. The award is Judge's 2nd in a row, and 3rd in last 4 seasons
NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York Yankee slugger Aaron Judge won his third Most Valuable Player Award on Thursday night. Judge hit 53 home runs and batted .331, beating out Seattle Mariners' Cal Raleigh, whose 60 home runs broke several records, including most by a catcher and a switch-hitter. Despite having seven fewer home runs, Judge's .457 on base percentage, and .688 slugging percentage, were well above Raleigh, whose on base and slugging percentages were .359 and .589 respectively. The 2025 MVP Award marks Judge's third, which have all come in the past four seasons. Aaron Judge stands alone. After yet another stellar season, the New York Yankees' star outfielder has won his third American League MVP award.

After a season where he led the entire MLB in most batting statistics, many wondered if the Yankees star could maintain this form. After Judge's first MVP season in 2022, he experienced a slight dip in his production. With Aaron Judge’s average sitting above .400 on May 20, Kyle Higashioka stood in Yankee Stadium’s visiting clubhouse and eagerly accepted an invitation to praise his former teammate. “It’s just the continual drive to be better every year,” the Rangers catcher said when asked what about Judge impresses him the most. “A lot of people would be very content with having some of the seasons he had a few years ago and just staying at that level. But I think he’s gotten better every single year since then.
That’s just a testament to the character he has.” Judge’s continued strides at the plate resulted in another spectacular season, as he finished the 2025 campaign with 53 home runs, 114 RBI, a .331 average — making the 6-7 slugger the tallest batting... The performance, briefly interrupted by a flexor strain, served as a remarkable follow-up to his 2024 season, the greatest ever by a right-handed hitter, and earned Judge his second straight American League MVP Award... “Aaron has been playing in rarified air for much of his career. His devotion to his craft, his continuous pursuit of excellence, and the importance he places on being a teammate who can be counted on help define his legacy just as much as his three... “He is a once-in-a-generation player who embodies so much of what is good about our game.
Aaron is being celebrated again tonight, and rightfully so. He has blossomed into one of sports’ greatest superstars.” Aaron Boone issued a statement of his own, saying, in part, that “it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to use words to capture how good [Judge] is.” New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge won his third American League MVP award on Thursday night, edging out Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh by four first-place votes. Judge is now the fourth player in franchise history to win three MVPs, joining Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, and Mickey Mantle. He is also the first Yankee to win consecutive MVP awards since Roger Maris accomplished the feat in 1960 and 1961.
Furthermore, he is the first AL player to win back-to-back titles since Miguel Cabrera in 2012 and 2013. Judge received 355 points, including 17 of 30 first-place votes. Raleigh received 335 points, including the remaining 13 first-place votes. Every voter with Judge in first place had Raleigh in second, and vice-versa. Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez finished third with 224 points, while Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. finished fourth with 215 points.
Detroit Tigers ace and AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal rounded out the top five with 139 points. Despite missing 10 games due to an elbow injury, Judge had another prolific season. The now three-time MVP led Major League Baseball in batting average (.331), slugging percentage (.688), on-base percentage (.457), and WAR (9.7). He finished second in total bases (372), runs (137), and walks (124). Judge finished fourth in hits (179) and home runs (53) as well as fifth in RBI (114). Before the 2025 playoffs, Judge was widely criticized for crumbling under the pressure of the postseason.
However, in 2025, Judge silenced all doubts about his October prowess. In the 2025 postseason, Judge led baseball with a .500 batting average and a .581 OBP. His 1.273 OPS was the second-best mark, trailing only Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
