2025 Nfl Draft Tennessee Takes Cam Ward In Titans Wire Seven Round
The NFL landscape has changed since the last Titans Wire mock. With the NFL combine in the books and free agency underway, it is becoming a bit easier to see how this draft puzzle will come together. Even after addressing the offensive line and adding depth to the defense, the Titans still have a ton of needs. With so many questions about the strength of the class, it may be better for the Titans to trade back and increase their draft capital without a third-round selection. But for this exercise, there will be no trades. In this post-free agency mock draft, we will simulate what the draft could look like with Cam Ward being the likely top pick at No.
1 overall. For this exercise, we used the Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator and left all settings on default. There were no trades; we only controlled the Tennessee Titans for all seven rounds. Here’s how things would play out by taking Ward at No. 1: It is not in the NFL rulebook that every first-round selection of a quarterback has to represent an unadulterated swing for the fences.
To kick off the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans have made the selection of Cam Ward at No. 1. The pick can be likened to an easy, under-control swing with the hopes of hitting a single, that, under the right circumstances in Tennessee, can be stretched into a double. Yet the perceived prudence of this selection for a club looking for long-term stability at the game's most vital position doesn't mean it comes without risk. Actually, there's plenty because of the job-security dynamic that very well may have factored into this collective decision by the Titans organization. In most draft classes -- like last year -- Ward wouldn't be a No.
1 overall pick candidate. But he's an ascending quarterback talent with a style reminiscent of the modern-day passers at the top of the position in today's NFL. This wasn't a seismic reach for the Titans. Yet I don't absolutely adore the pick -- even as a draft analyst who gives quarterbacks a massive positional value boost in my grading system -- because I'm wondering if head coach Bill Callahan... Ward, 22, will take over a Titans quarterback room that hasn't featured a 4,000-yard passer since 1991 and has only resulted in one Pro Bowl season in the last 15 years. Ward is Mike Borgonzi's first selection as Titans general manager, starting off his tenure with the third quarterback the Titans have picked in the first three rounds since 2022 and the fourth quarterback the... Ward joins Vince Young, Jake Locker, Marcus Mariota, Malik Willis and Will Levis as quarterbacks the Titans have drafted as potential heirs to the franchise since moving on from Steve McNair. The Titans went 3-14 in 2024, earning the No. 1 pick in large part because of the struggles at quarterback.
Levis and Mason Rudolph combined to throw 22 touchdowns and 21 interceptions as the Titans ranked 26th in the NFL in passing and tied for last in turnovers. Ward is from West Columbia, Texas, a small town roughly 60 miles south of Houston and about the same distance away from the coast. The 6-foot-2, 219 pound Ward was a zero-star recruit out of high school whose only scholarship offer came from University of the Incarnate Word, an FCS program in San Antonio. The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted Ward's freshman season at Incarnate Word, forcing him to debut in a spring season in 2021. He quickly established himself as one of the most talented players in the sport, winning the Jerry Rice Award given to the top freshman in the FCS. That fall, as a sophomore, Ward led the FCS in touchdown passes and the FBS scholarship offers quickly came flooding in.

The Tennessee Titans are officially turning to a new chapter in franchise history at the quarterback position after the team selected Miami signal-caller Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft on Thursday night. While this year's draft class wasn't considered very good for quarterbacks, Ward was widely considered the best of the bunch and it was long anticipated that the Titans would take him with the top... Ward truly has all the makings of a star at the next level.
In the wake of the Titans taking Ward, draft experts from different media outlets are weighing in on just how good or bad the selection is. 1 overall draft pick is showing quick results at least inside the locker room. Ward is one of seven Titans voted as team captains for this season, and coach Brian Callahan said the vote was pretty close to unanimous for Ward. “Cam’s definitely earned it,” Callahan said Thursday. “The leadership he’s shown over the course of his time here from the offseason through training camp, those guys have a lot of respect for him. And traditionally, your quarterback tends to be a captain. That’s just sort of how it works.”
It's officially official. With the first pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans select Miami quarterback Cam Ward. With that selection, Ward becomes just the second quarterback out of Miami to be selected No. 1 overall. For the first, you have to go back to 1987 when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Vinny Testaverde. This selection was not a secret, and Mike Borgonzi confirmed on Tuesday that they would not be trading the top pick.
He did not confirm the selection, but he didn't really have to. Ward is the best quarterback in this draft class, and the Titans are in desperate need. It wasn't a hard decision. Ward began his collegiate career at the University of the Incarnate Word where he played two seasons before transferring to Washington State. Initially, he declared for the 2024 NFL draft but later decided to use his final year of eligibility to transfer to Miami. In his final college season, Ward completed 305 passes for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns with just seven interceptions.
