9-16, No. 17-24, and No. 25-32. That will wrap up our coverage of the 2021 NFL Draft. Thank you to everyone for following along! Trapasso gave the Grant Stuard pick a 'C+.'
"Small, squatty, hyperactive LB who's impressive between the tackles because of his twitched up nature. Stiffness in hips hurts him in coverage. But the hustle will help him in the NFL." Undrafted free agency has already begun. Grant Stuard, LB, Houston (#0)6-foot-1, 225 The 2021 NFL draft is officially underway, and we've got you covered with instant grades and analysis for every first-round pick.
Keep it locked here for our live breakdowns of every pick Thursday night: Lawrence has been destined for this pick for three years, and he's lived up to the hype all along the way. The Jaguars have a more talented roster than you might expect from a team picking No. 1 overall, and they have multiple premium picks this year to keep building around Lawrence. He's the best quarterback prospect we've seen in a while, and that makes him the no-brainer pick here. We knew this pick was going to be a quarterback, and if you watch a highlight reel of Wilson, it's easy to see why the Jets fell in love with his potential.
Wilson can make some fantastic plays with his ability to create when the play breaks down, but consistency was an issue, even against inferior competition. Getting a franchise quarterback is important, but with Justin Fields still on the board, it's hard to feel like the Jets picked the wrong one. The first surprise of the draft, but it shouldn't be. Lance is a dynamic talent who can beat opposing defenses with impressive arm talent as well as top-level athleticism. He's still a work in progress, but considering how good he already is, that's good news for the 49ers. He can sit behind Jimmy Garoppolo until he's ready, and he might have the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this class, including Trevor Lawrence.
I still would have taken Justin Fields, but Lance is a much better choice than Mac Jones. It’s the final day of the 2021 NFL Draft. Lindsay Jones, Matt Fortuna, Nick Baumgardner, Ted Nguyen and more of The Athletic’s NFL staff had reaction and analysis of every moment from Rounds 1-3 on Thursday and Friday night. Rounds 4-7 unfold today, starting at noon ET. And there is plenty more draft coverage to read from The Athletic. Below are links to draft grades, the trade tracker, team needs and more.
Pick-by-pick analysis: Round 1 | Round 2-3 | Sheil Kapadia grades: Round 1 | Rounds 2-3 | The 2021 NFL Draft is upon us and we are tracking every pick of the first round with instant grades and analysis for every selection. The NFL Draft is forever a crapshoot. However, the 2021 NFL Draft feels more that way than any before. Whether it’s the COVID-19 affected season leading to a lack of evaluation of prospects, no NFL Combine taking place which has led to inflated pro day numbers, or the immense number of quarterbacks that...
Of course, that won’t be the case at the top of the 2021 NFL Draft. Trevor Lawrence will be the first overall pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars. After that at No. 2, we think we can project what the New York Jets will do. That’s when the madness can truly begin. Who will the San Francisco 49ers take at No.
3: Mac Jones or Trey Lance? Which teams are prepared to make bold trades up the board, perhaps into the top 10? This is going to be calamity and fans should soak up every minute of it. And we’re here to help you do that. We’re going to be tracking every first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Not only that, we’ll hand out instant grades to every selection while offering some brief analysis.
The first round of the 2021 NFL Draft lived up to the hype. We finally found out the San Francisco 49ers’ guy was Trey Lance, we witnessed multiple top 10 trades and a historic move by the Chicago Bears to go up and grab quarterback Justin Fields. Here is a quick recap of all those instant reaction thoughts for all 32 first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft: R1 (1) JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: QB TREVOR LAWRENCE, CLEMSON
The Jaguars kick things off with the no-brainer decision to take Trevor Lawrence with the first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft — a selection roughly five years in the making. The 21-year-old produced three 90.0-plus season grades at Clemson, starting with a breakout true freshman campaign in which he led the Tigers to a national championship. R1 (2) NEW YORK JETS: QB ZACH WILSON, BYU
