Although some strategies have failed, others have been found to be quite effective. Explore 10 teacher-tested ways to keep your class interesting so your students will stay engaged all (or at least most) of the time. Learning may be the most fun for your students when they don't know what to expect. Try to incorporate a sense of surprise and mystery into your lessons.

When you're about to unveil a new lesson, give students a new clue each day up until the last day before the start of the lesson. This is a fun way to make your lesson mysterious, and you may find that your students are actually looking forward to finding out what they'll be learning about next. It's appropriate and essential to review classroom material, but try not to repeat it verbatim because this can make it less interesting for students. The next time you need to review material, try playing a review game during which you present the information in a way that's different from the first time you taught the students. The 3-2-1 strategy is a fun way to review and not repeat material. For this activity, students draw a pyramid in their notebooks and write down three things they learned, two things they thought were interesting, and one question they still have.

A great way to give students meaningful opportunities to apply their learning and lower their affective filter is to make learning fun! When teachers use activities that make learning engaging and fun, students are more willing to participate and take risks. Having fun while learning also helps students retain information better because the process is enjoyable and memorable. In this month’s Teacher’s Corner, we will examine ways to make learning fun, accessible, and meaningful in the English language classroom.

Each week, we will present activities to make learning fun in one of the domains of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. English language learners spend a lot of time listening, whether in classroom scenarios or the real world. Teachers know that being able to listen and comprehend content is a very important skill for students learning English. All you have to do is put more fun in your lessons and the following ideas should help get you started. Some are silly, some are wacky and some are plain outrageous but I’m sure you’ll find something worth trying. With a little effort, putting fun in your lessons will soon become a habit, the mood in your classroom will lift and your students will be lining up outside your room with broad smiles... A CD of TV and film theme tunes is a great investment. You can play ‘Chariots of fire’, ‘Rocky’ or ‘Mission Impossible’ at the start of lessons, Benny Hill when you want them to change activities and ‘Countdown’ when you want them to answer spot questions. Rapturous applause when students answer questions, a machine gun when they’re being cheeky etc.

Technology makes this easy – most mobile phones can be plugged in to a speaker system and can be used to access all manner of sound effects. I recently used my iPhone to trick the kids outside into thinking the ice cream van had arrived. It’s amazing what you can do with sound effects. 3. Add a touch of magic to spice up your lessons – as a starter, fill-in or imaginative and engaging way to deliver lesson content. Getting kids to learn can be difficult.

After all, let’s face it: learning can be boring, and traditional school settings just don’t provide kids with the stimulation or motivation that they need to really want to learn or to be able... However, as time goes on, there appears to be a variety of innovative teaching methods for fun child education. Overall, the point here is to teach your kids valuable skills and pieces of knowledge that they’ll need to be successful in life, but this doesn’t mean that they can’t have fun while doing... So, what ways are the best based on our opinion? We’ve compiled a list below. Inquiry-based learning is nothing new, but it is making a resurgence in popularity.

This type of education involves having students ask questions and explore, as well as using hands-on approaches to find solutions to various problems and answers to different questions. It’s a lot more fun when students can be hands-on, as opposed to just sitting there at a desk like a zombie and listening to a teacher drone on and on. It’s all about asking questions rather than simply regurgitating information. One of the best and most innovative teaching methods to make education fun is to turn learning into a game. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you should set your kids or students in front of video games.
