An option for high school students to build and refine their portfolios with guidance from MassArt’s skilled instructors. Open to students in grades 3-12, Saturday Studios gives young creators the chance to make art every weekend. Our virtual and in-person Spring Break programs allow students to spend their week off learning and creating. A rewarding and enriching summer activity for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders who are ready to grow as visual artists. These two-week programs immerse students in rigorous artmaking and are ideal for 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students interested in building their technical skills and portfolios. Summer Intensives in Art and Design: A two-week intensive program for students entering 10-12th grade
Summer Intensives in Art and Design offers high school creative students the opportunity to develop technical skills and build studio practice. Studio choices are available in both fine art and design. Students also have an opportunity to develop work for their portfolio. The nature of the program is that of a rigorous art school, with students engaging in individual and group critiques. The program meets week days for nine days. Students have the option to attend a morning or afternoon studio only, or to attend two different studios during the morning and afternoon.
Pre-College Summer Studios: A pre-college studio art program for students entering grades 11 & 12 Immerse yourself in a four-week studio art program designed for high school juniors and seniors passionate about the visual arts. Modeled after MassArt’s renowned Studio Foundation year, our Pre-College Summer Studios program is a four-week intensive experience in art making and critical thinking. Strengthen your foundational skills with three core classes—2D Fundamentals, 3D Fundamentals, and Issues & Images—while exploring your creative passion through an elective of your choice. Prepare yourself for higher education in MassArt’s dynamic, hands-on environment. This program is perfect for students envisioning a future in the visual arts.
Summer 2025 Schedule: July 21 – August 15, 2025 Classes are held Monday through Fridays: 8:30AM – 4:30PM After-School Studios is a dynamic program for students in grades 9–12, offering a variety of classes in both fine art and design. Through weekly studio sessions, participants hone their skills, develop inventive and expressive portfolios, and prepare for college or the next step in their creative academic journey. Discover new techniques, connect with fellow young artists, and take your creativity to the next level. Schedule: October 14 – December 18, 2025 (No classes November 27) Location: On-campus and online (see class descriptions) Cost: $555 per class Registration Opened: September 8, 2025 Registration Ended: October 6, 2025
The After-School Studios program offers insight into building a portfolio for higher education and the art school admissions process through a presentation with Admissions during the semester. One-on-one portfolio reviews with an Admissions Counselor are encouraged as well. Prior experience is not necessary. Students from a variety of artistic backgrounds are welcome. To improve accessibility, After-School Studios includes a virtual class option. To participate, students will need access to a computer, laptop, or smartphone with video/camera capabilities, and a reliable internet connection.
Every studio will utilize Zoom for virtual meetings. Other applications and online web resources, such as Google Classroom and Discord, may be used to organize assignments and other class content at the instructor’s discretion. MassArt’s Summer Intensives offer high school students an exciting two-week opportunity to immerse themselves in art and design. Developed for students entering grades 10-12, this dynamic program is perfect for building a portfolio, learning new techniques, or diving into fresh creative mediums. Whether you’re looking to explore new possibilities, refine your artistic skills, or prepare for future creative studies, these studio-based classes provide the tools, mentorship, and inspiration to take your art to the next level.
