Tom Brady S Strong Message To Arch Manning After Tough Game
Tom Brady has a strong message for Arch Manning on what he needs to do if he’s going to bounce back after his disappointing Saturday game against Ohio State. In an interview with Cris Collinsworth of Pro Football Focus, Brady spoke out about Texas losing 7 to 14 against Ohio State. The game was close up to the end, but many fans were quick to turn on Manning anyway, even calling for his backup quarterback to step in. Brady and Collinsworth began talking about Manning’s performance at about 39 minutes into the interview. Overall, Brady was positive about Manning’s future. There’s a long season ahead, he said, and he hasn’t seen anything to indicate that Manning doesn’t have what it takes to persevere.
Collinsworth started out by comparing Manning to Brady. He was the next Tom Brady, the way he was getting built up here before the season started,” Collinsworth said. “But he also missed some really easy throws… Ones that made a difference in the game.” The Texas Longhorns entered the season as the No. 1 team in the preseason poll. Arch Manning earned the job as the team's starting quarterback, and his name was instantly thrown around in Heisman Trophy conversations.
However, Week 1 against No. 3 Ohio State did not go according to plan for Texas as the Buckeyes won, 14-7, in Columbus. Manning had a subpar showing, going 17-of-30 for 170 yards with one touchdown and an interception, as well as 10 carries for 38 yards in the loss. Still, it wasn't the performance many expected from Manning, even against the defending national champions. While many questioned Manning's play, NFL legend Tom Brady still expressed belief in the Texas signal-caller, via Henry McKenna of Fox Sports. The Arch Manning era at Texas didn't get off to the best start this weekend as the Longhorns suffered a 14-7 defeat at the hands of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The reigning college football champions made life difficult for Manning, who finished the game 17-of-30 passing for 170 yards with one touchdown that came late in the fourth quarter and one interception. He added 38 yards on the ground as Texas fell to the new likely No. 1 team in the country. During a recent Pro Football Focus podcast on Sunday, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady didn't hesitate to reveal his opinion of Manning. The seven-time Super Bowl champion believes the young starting quarterback received a "blessing" - if he uses it correctly. “I think there’s a blessing and a curse in some of it,” Brady said on the podcast.
“The curse is a lot of people pile on. The blessing is that there needs to be resilience built up in the quarterback as well. So even though he didn’t have his best game today, and they lost, if he uses this to his advantage, Arch, he’s going to be tougher for it. And he’s going to have a better next game because of it.” “I always felt like you’ve got to deal with a lot of adversity from a quarterback standpoint — to toughen you up to be the true leader for the organization,” continued Brady. “And unfortunately, these kids now at 19 years old or 20, they’re forced to be the leaders of a college organization.
... Arch has years beyond this to still play in college, if he wants. But it’s going to be up to him to see how he really wants to dig within himself, and how deep he wants to dig, in order to be successful. But there’s nothing to show me that he won’t be that. He’s been that way in high school and even last year. And he’s got a lot of good people around him that know exactly what to do.” Nick Wright joins Colin Cowherd to discuss the Micah Parsons trade, Bill Belichick’s disappointing debut, and whether or not it’s time to panic over Arch Manning’s poor performance against Ohio State.
Like many others across the country, Tom Brady was tuned in to Saturday afternoon’s matchup between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 3 Texas. The contest marked the official start of the Arch Manning era, but it did not get off to an ideal start. Entering the fourth quarter, the grandson of Archie and nephew of Peyton and Eli, had just 38 passing yards. He finished with 167 in the Longhorns' 14-7 loss to the Buckeyes.
