I research the best books to read this summer and read as many as I can to give you the ultimate summer reading guide. However, that means that by the time summer rolls around, I’ve already read the summer reads I’m recommending. So what does a book blogger read in the summer?

I always think it’s fun to give you a peek at my personal summer reading list. For those hot summer months, I like to catch up on some recent reads as well as some backlist favorites I keep hearing great things about. Are you ready to fill your to-read list with good summer reads? The Summer Reading List 2024 will help you find all the best books to read this summer. I recently sat down to figure out my summer plans. I’m kicking off the summer with a big trip to Europe for my fifteenth anniversary.

After that, I’ve filled up my summer with the typical summer things: beach days, hikes, theme park visits, camping, bike rides, and pickleball. As always, I’ve made sure to pencil in plenty of time to get through my summer reading list for 2024. Of course, you only want the best summer reads to appear on your summer book list. No one has time to waste reading overrated bestsellers. How to choose the best reads of the year? Of the over one hundred books I read last year, these are my top ten reads of 2024.

Last year, I read 129 books. While far from a record year, it feels like a decent count given my job as a book reviewer. With all those books, it can be hard to keep my full 2024 reading list straight. However, my top reads of the year had something that made them stand out. Each of these books touched me in a way – making me thinking about life, past and future. And because I can never settle on just ten, I threw in a few honorable mentions that were so close to making the list.

Take a peek at Rachael’s Goodreads TBR list to see what books I have my eye on. In 2013, I spent a week watching my cousins while my aunt and uncle were on vacation. I vividly remember the youngest girl spouting off a story about spiders, the oldest girl getting a concussion at the driving range, and dowloading an app called Goodreads. Every since, I have religiously tracked my reading on Goodreads.

The first thing I do when I start or finish a book is to update my status on Goodreads. Whenever someone would recommend a book, I’d add it to my to-read list. Although I still persistently track my reading on Goodreads, my to-read usage has changed over the years. When I started book blogging in 2018, I suddenly came across SO MANY books that it would be too unwieldy to track them all in one list. This summer, I finally made my way through all the books that I owned but haven’t read. Now I’ve set my sights on my Goodreads TBR.

My goal over the next year is to make a massive dent in my list. Some of these poor books have been languishing on the list for far too long.
