The Power of a Unified Business Strategy Amid the promise of the AI-enabled era, Taneja says the key to real transformative outcomes lies in a disciplined focus on strategy. “The companies that are doing the best are those that have actually prioritized the two or three things that align in the most clear way to their overall strategy,” he said. This strategic, cost-conscious vision at the heart of IBM’s partnership with BCG ensures resources and efforts are channeled toward initiatives with the greatest potential for impact.

AI plays a pivotal, enabling role in this partnership ethos, streamlining processes and accelerating execution. Wright emphasized its transformative potential: “Let’s take this digital AI-enabled moment and truly look at how we actually run every aspect of our business, every business process, across every discipline.” By embedding AI in... The return for the great majority of other Global 2000 companies is less so. But the success to date of top-performing AI adopters serves as an indicator of the potential growth opportunities available from AI and gen AI for everyone else. For example, Accenture analysis reveals that, since 2022, companies with the greatest AI maturity have been growing 3 percentage points more (or 4.7x) year over year than companies with the least maturity.

Business leaders and investors are confident that AI is here to stay. They aren't investing in it as an antidote to market disruption; rather they proactively embrace AI as a strategy to gain insights and activate entirely new growth models. And while cost optimization and efficiency have been AI’s early business headliners, AI is proving its potential to elevate competitiveness, expand markets, and deliver exponential growth for companies. These opportunities enhance core business activities and customer experiences, enable reaching new customers in new ways, and facilitate the development of new offerings and revenue models. Companies that effectively adopt and apply AI will find and capture new growth opportunities across three horizons, providing a pathway to tangible value for companies. Artificial intelligence (AI) isn’t just for big corporations anymore.

It’s now affordable and easy to use. Small teams can create amazing customer experiences while competing with industry giants and staying special with speed and personal touch. According to Salesforce AI Research, 53% of small businesses already use AI. The gap between big and small businesses is closing fast. The question isn’t whether you should use AI — it’s how quickly you can start. Businesses that act now will gain a competitive edge, and those who wait will get left behind.

Here’s how to level up your business: Your competition may have bigger budgets and larger teams. But with AI, you get the power of big tools and more resources. Modern AI tools put enterprise-level power directly into the hands of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Let’s find out how. Our research shows that, 85% of SMBs believe AI can improve productivity and collaboration.

When you’re running a lean team but want enterprise-level results, every minute counts. AI turns time-consuming tasks into automated workflows that run while you focus on growing your business. How enterprises handle productivity: Enterprises solve productivity problems by adding more people and deploying multiple complex tools across departments. They have dedicated teams for data entry, separate departments for report generation, and specialized divisions using advanced software systems. When something breaks, they assign committees and implement new technical solutions. When they need insights, they hire analysts and deploy analytics platforms.

Their productivity comes from having enough people and sophisticated tools to handle every task. For established businesses, the debate is settled: a hybrid cloud approach is the right strategic choice. However, while embracing hybrid cloud might be intrinsic, clients continually seek to derive business value and higher return on investment (ROI) from their investments. According to a study conducted by HFS Research in partnership with IBM Consulting®, only 25% of surveyed enterprises have reported solid ROI on business outcomes from their cloud transformation efforts. The lack of ROI progress can be attributed to several factors, including slow adoption, unrealized use cases and unaddressed cloud sprawl. This is exacerbated by the increasing challenges of platform scaling, skilling, cybersecurity and the explosion of data volumes.

Businesses aiming to derive value from business outcomes through their cloud investments and harness the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) must adopt an intentional approach. At IBM, we provide clear guidance for navigating these challenges and achieving better business outcomes. Adopting a hybrid by design strategy allows organizations to align architectural choices with business priorities across technology, platforms, processes and people, resulting in significantly enhanced outcomes and a higher ROI. The latest paper from IBM, titled “Maximize the value of hybrid cloud in the generative AI era,” offers clarity for businesses seeking to optimize their hybrid cloud architecture and amplify the impact of generative... Wayne Liu is the Chief Growth Officer and President of Perfect Corp America. For more than a decade, many have viewed SaaS as the gold standard of tech growth, characterized by stable recurring revenue, enterprise-first distribution and predictable multiples on Wall Street.

But AI is rewriting the rules. The rise of consumer-facing AI apps and API ecosystems has created a new hybrid model where the value no longer stops at the enterprise license. Instead, companies are combining the stability of SaaS with the reach and velocity of consumer adoption. Here’s what leaders should know: In my previous Forbes article, I outlined a “Controlled Burn Strategy,” a disciplined approach for SaaS companies to manage resources, preserve runway and focus on efficient growth in an uncertain AI era. But efficiency is only the first step.

Once survival is secured, the next challenge is reinvention. I believe the companies that will thrive will not simply burn more slowly; they will expand more intelligently, embracing consumer engagement, open APIs and outcome-based pricing to fuel sustainable growth. The traditional SaaS model was built on predictability: sell enterprise licenses, charge per seat and grow steadily year after year. But AI doesn’t distribute that way. AI spreads like wildfire, bypassing slow procurement cycles and engaging consumers and developers. In The State of AI 2025 report, Bessemer Venture Partners documented how AI startups clocked faster user acquisition via viral loops in 2024, illustrating how consumer demand is changing.
