The former is still viewed as an enigma based on how he'll be utilized positionally, while the latter is still waiting to hear his name called on Day 2 of the draft. Last year, anonymous general managers were raving about the first-round talent and a "loaded" top 10.
This year, there's expected to be a quick drop-off in talent. "Multiple teams have said the player who will be drafted at No. 10 is the same quality as the player drafted at No. 32," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. "It will be about each team's preference, but in the opinion of multiple personnel people, there is not a tremendous amount of difference." Bleacher Report graded every selection from Thursday's first round to see how each team handled itself through the uncertainty.

While it's not a shocking choice, it's the right one. Quarterback is the most important position in football, and when you have a chance to draft a franchise signal-caller at No. 1, you have to take it. Ward would have been the sixth or seventh QB taken in the 2024 NFL Draft, but this isn't 2024. Life is all about timing, and this is Ward and the Titans' time to find each other. Tennessee fans would probably prefer Caleb Williams or Arch Manning, but this is what they've got.
Ultimately, it's the right pick in the wrong draft, so the Titans get as good a grade as they can get in that situation. The 2025 NFL draft officially started when the Tennessee Titans predictably made Cam Ward the No. 1 pick and their new franchise quarterback. The move has been evident for weeks, but it’s still worth asking whether the Titans made a mistake passing on Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter, the consensus top two prospects in this draft class. That’s the first of many questions we’ll be asking ourselves Thursday night, when The MMQB will be grading every first-round pick, starting with Ward. MORE.

So let’s strap in and get ready for what looks to be an eventful night. Ward at 1 feels a little pricey, but that’s the going rate of picking a QB these days.
I have some questions about Ward’s consistency with his mechanics and penchant for brainfart plays, but his explosiveness with his arm and feel for big plays should work in the Titans’ offense. The 2025 NFL draft is in the books. Which players went in the first round? There weren't many surprises among the picks, with perhaps the Jacksonville Jaguars making the biggest splash of the night at No. 2. With that in mind, here are the grades for 32 first-round picks...
This is a big "if" pick. Simmons missed most of last season with a knee injury. That is why he fell to this slot. Some had him in the top five or top 10 of this draft. However, the injury makes him risky business. Grade: C+
The Eagles had to be afraid the Chiefs were going to take the player they wanted. That means the Chiefs had a chance to beat the Eagles in April and still let Philly get what it wanted. Meanwhile, the Eagles used the pick to select a linebacker from Alabama who people were worried about with a shoulder problem. However, these are the Eagles and they know what to do when it comes to defensive stalwarts. Campbell's father said his son was "p----ed off" that he had to wait so long. Grade: B+
A strong cover corner will be valuable if he can avoid injuries that curtailed him in college. Grade: C+ The 2025 NFL Draft is here, and with it comes hope for many NFL teams. However, not every pick is a home run selection. As the first round unfolds, we'll be live grading every pick, providing instant analysis and takeaways throughout the night. Which teams are getting better, and which ones are making mistakes?
Tennessee needs an offensive engine to build around, and Cameron Ward has the best blend of current skill and traits to develop into one. His free-wheeling style might frustrate Brian Callahan, but the Titans hope he can harness his instincts like Jordan Love has in Green Bay. The Jacksonville Jaguars boldly traded up for Travis Hunter when they could've sat tight for Tetairoa McMillan. Hunter is a great fit next to Brian Thomas Jr. if he primarily plays on offense or can be the new CB1 in Jacksonville. Is he worth the price of moving up is a valid question since McMillan and Will Johnson are similarly graded prospects at one, but not both, positions.
