In the meantime, we are excited to share a groundbreaking new online resource with you from Achieve the Core, an initiative of Student Achievement Partners (SAP). SAP is a non-profit organization founded by the lead writers of the Common Core whose primary aim is to ensure that teachers can put the new standards to work effectively. With the help of teachers from around the country (including many members of our major partner, the American Federation of Teachers), SAP has recently re-launched its website with a new design and hundreds of... While these resources aren't currently scaffolded for ELLs or aligned to English language proficiency standards, they provide one of the most comprehensive collections of Common Core materials to date and offer a great starting... For example, this Grade 6 language arts lesson plan on "The Making of a Scientist" by Richard Feynman clearly outlines reading, vocabulary, syntax, and discussion activities and tasks alongside the lesson text.

How can we help English language learners successfully meet the Common Core State Standards? This resource section offers ideas and materials including classroom videos, teacher interviews, and bilingual parent tips. For more great ideas and resources, see our Common Core and ELLs blog! What do the Common Core State Standards mean for English language learners (ELLs)? These resources offer a user-friendly overview of what ELL educators need to know, as well as updates from the field. The Common Core's focus on language and literacy provides an opportunity to help ELLs access more rigorous materials.

The following strategies, tools, and recommendations are designed to help educators of English language learners and may prove to be very effective for other students as well, particularly in areas such as academic language. These classroom video modules and lesson plan offer a model of Common Core-aligned instruction with English language learners in elementary, middle, and high school.
