When: Thursday, August 22th, from 10:15 am to 11:45 am Who: Prof Catholijn Jonker from TU Delft/Leiden University Hybrid Intelligence is the intelligence emerging from a true collaboration between human and artificial intelligence. The future of humankind is determined more and more by the results of a co-evolution process of humans and their technology. Artificial intelligence is a force to be reckoned with as the autonomous intelligence it creates is still developed mostly from a business perspective to supplant people, thus reducing costs, and increasing efficiency of current... In this talk I present the different view of hybrid intelligence in which humans and artificial intelligence work together to advance human intelligence as well as artificial intelligence.

When talking about artificial intelligence with a high dose of autonomy and working alongside humans, the issue of Meaningful Human Control is a vital one for our immediate and long-term safety. I briefly show how we can achieve meaningful human control with respect to the notion of fairness by combining Knowledge Technology with RL and with human intelligence. Prof. Dr. Catholijn Jonker is head of the Interactive Intelligence group at TU Delft and professor of Explainable Artificial Intelligence at Leiden University. She is a Fellow of EurAI, member of Academia Europaea, and member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities.

She is a co-founding member of the Netherlands Academy of Engineers. She is a knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion. Her publications address hybrid intelligence and interactive intelligent processes such as negotiation, teamwork and the dynamics of individual agents. In particular, she works towards intelligent agents that can interact with their users in value-conflicting situations when also meta-values no longer solve the situation and negotiation is needed. Prestigious grants for her work are the NWO VICI (1.5 M€, 2007) personal grant negotiation support systems, and NWO Gravitation consortium grants (19 M€, 2019) on “Hybrid Intelligence” of which she is vice-coordinator, and... Co-applicant of the EC awarded projects HumanE-AI, TAILOR and VISION.

© 2024 Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security The AI Colloquium, organized by the Lamarr Institute, the Research Center Trustworthy Data Science and Security (RC Trust) and the Center for Data Science & Simulation at TU Dortmund University (DoDas), provides a platform... These 90-minute sessions, which usually take place on Thursdays at 10 a.m. c.t., unlike other colloquia, focus on interactive dialog and international collaboration and include one-hour lectures and 30-minute Q&A sessions. The colloquium will be held mainly in English. The hybrid format of the colloquium ensures that all interested parties can participate in person in the lecture hall at Fraunhofer Straße 25 in Dortmund or online via our Lamarr YouTube channel.

On August 22th, the AI Colloquium welcomes Prof. Dr. Catholijn Jonker as its next speaker with an online keynote entitled “Hybrid Intelligence: augmenting human intellect”. Prof. Dr. Catholijn Jonker is the head of the Interactive Intelligence group at TU Delft and a professor of Explainable Artificial Intelligence at Leiden University.

She is a distinguished academic, recognized as a Fellow of EurAI, a member of Academia Europaea, and the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities, and a knight in the Order of the Netherlands... Her research focuses on hybrid intelligence and interactive intelligent processes, particularly in negotiation and teamwork involving value-conflicting situations. She has received prestigious grants, including the NWO VICI and Gravitation consortium grants, and is involved in several major European AI projects. The Institute of Computing and Cybersystems (ICC) and its Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) are excited to announce a new event series: The AI Colloquium Series. This series will showcase cutting-edge research, applications, and developments in artificial intelligence from Michigan Tech students and faculty. Each session is designed to foster collaboration, inspire innovation, and build a vibrant AI research community at Michigan Tech.

We are still accepting proposals...final deadline is May 1. Abstract: As many leading voices in debates about ethics and AI recognize, AI creates risks for democracy and we need to democratize AI. But what, exactly, are these risks, and what does it mean to democratize AI? Drawing on his forthcoming book Why AI Undermines Democracy And What To Do About It, Mark Coeckelbergh offers an overview of some of the risks and mobilizes the tradition of political-philosophical republicanism to argue... The Institute for Ethics in AI will bring together world-leading philosophers and other experts in the humanities with the technical developers and users of AI in academia, business and government. The ethics and governance of AI is an exceptionally vibrant area of research at Oxford and the Institute is an opportunity to take a bold leap forward from this platform.

Every day brings more examples of the ethical challenges posed by AI; from face recognition to voter profiling, brain machine interfaces to weaponised drones, and the ongoing discourse about how AI will impact employment... This is urgent and important work that we intend to promote internationally as well as embedding in our own research and teaching here at Oxford. Not your computer? The Uppsala Vienna AI Colloquium is a series of colloquium style talks focused on philosophical issues surrounding AI technology. Each talk will focus on a specific issue of relevance to AI systems (e.g., intelligence, agency, responsibility, etc.) and will be delivered by an expert with research background on the topic. The intended audience of the talks are philosophically informed individuals with an interest in the philosophy of artificial intelligence. The schedule of talks for Academic year 2025-26 is as follows: 17 October 2025, 1730 Hrs CET: Leonard Dung, “Future science and artificial consciousness”. Does consciousness require biology or can systems made out of other materials be conscious?

I develop an argument for the view that it is (nomologically) possible that some non-biological creatures are conscious, including conventional, silicon-based AI systems. It assumes the iterative natural kind (INK) strategy, according to which one should investigate consciousness by treating it as a natural kind which iteratively explains observable patterns and correlations between potentially consciousness-relevant features. The argument is based on the insight that we can already anticipate that future developments would give us reasons to attribute consciousness to some non-biological creatures. According to the argument, an idealized scientific investigation – based on the INK strategy – would deliver the result that some possible non-biological creatures are conscious, and the outcome of such an ideal application... My argument for the former premise is based on the claim that theoretical virtues and pre-theoretical principles support attributing consciousness to psychological duplicates, i.e., non-biological, silicon-based creatures which share the coarse-grained functional organization of...
