Excited to share my latest research collaboration with EY for their Megatrends 2026 report—a comprehensive analysis published every four years that explores the forces reshaping our future. This piece examines how superfluid enterprises are leveraging AI and automation to fundamentally reshape organizational structures and unlock unprecedented competitive advantages. We identified three critical transformation horizons: 🔹 Foundation Building – Organizations develop AI-native capabilities while maintaining familiar structures. Early adopters are already seeing 40% time savings and 150%+ ROI on pilot programs, with 78% of global companies now using AI in at least one business function. 🔹 Autonomous Coordination – The shift from "humans in the loop" to "humans on the loop." AI agents independently manage 80% of routine decisions, enabling leaders to focus on strategy, ethics, and ecosystem partnerships. Manufacturing firms are cutting time-to-market by 50-70%.
🔹 Full Superfluidity – End-to-end autonomous operations where AI manages everything from customer acquisition to delivery, while humans focus on strategic vision, creative problem-solving, and ensuring alignment with human values. The implications are profound: we're moving from traditional organizational structures to fluid, adaptive ecosystems where operational friction is eliminated and decision-making becomes radically more responsive. For leaders navigating what EY calls the "NAVI world" (Nonlinear, Accelerated, Volatile, Interconnected), understanding these transformation horizons isn't optional—it's existential. Read the full analysis here: https://lnkd.in/gTPq27Ud What horizon is your organization operating in today? And more importantly—what's your roadmap to get to the next one? Special thanks to Chris Yeh, Bryan Cassady, and Terri Horton, for their thoughtful contributions to this and the second piece I'll post tomorrow.
#EYMegatrends #AI #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfWork #Leadership #Innovation #EnterpriseTech Really solid breakdown! I have been seeing the same shift while building out governed autonomous systems in Stratos. Once you add real traceability, risk control, and continuous decision logic, things start to move in the direction you describe. Superfluid is a solid word for it. AI is no longer just a tool.
It’s becoming the scaffolding of how organizations think. As generative AI takes hold across enterprises, it promises efficiency at scale: summaries, reports, goal suggestions—all done in seconds. But beneath the surface of this acceleration lies a deeper shift. AI is reconfiguring not just workflows, but the cognitive architecture of work itself. We’ve begun to streamline the very processes that once served as fertile ground for innovation: the friction-filled spaces where strategy emerges, disagreement sharpens decisions, and reflection fuels alignment. What makes organizational thinking resilient isn’t velocity—it’s depth.
And depth requires time. Traditional knowledge work involves natural pauses: revision cycles, feedback loops, cross-functional debates. These moments of resistance, far from being inefficiencies, are the crucibles where insights are tested and shared understanding is forged. For more than a century, businesses have organized themselves into tidy boxes — like sales, marketing, service, operations — each with its own logic, budgets, and way of working. The org chart became the default map for getting work done — not because it captured reality, but because it made reality manageable. Complexity was too messy, so companies built structures to contain it.
Enter the AI agent, a technology capable of rendering this inelegant illusion obsolete. For the first time, organizations have a tool that can reckon with the complexity they’ve long been simplifying away. Agentic systems don’t just automate tasks; they understand relationships. They don’t just speed up workflows; they dissolve the boundaries between them. It will take time for organizations to adapt and for the technology to mature. But these systems have already exposed the org chart as a relic on the brink of extinction.
Agentic systems don’t just automate tasks; they understand relationships. Conversations about AI and work are understandably focused on whether or not certain jobs will disappear. But that’s the wrong question, at least for executives hoping to harness AI’s real potential. My friend Vitaly Golomb from Mavka Growth did a lot of the in-depth research associated with this extensive EY white paper which goes deep on the various (and in some cases surprising) ways in... Not a light read but worth the effort. Well done, Vitaly!
