Prof. Dr. Nils Urbach is Professor of Information Systems and Digital Business as well as Director of the Research Lab for Digital Innovation & Transformation (ditlab) and the Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence (ZAKI) at the... Furthermore, he is Director of the FIM Research Center for Information Management and the Branch Business & Information Systems Engineering of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT. There he heads the Fraunhofer Blockchain Lab and the Fraunhofer Generative AI Lab. In his research and teaching, Nils Urbach focuses on issues of digital innovation and transformation.

His research focuses in particular on the investigation and design of decentralized information systems (including blockchain and self-sovereign identities) as well as the management and governance of artificial intelligence. In his research, he uses both empirical and design-oriented research methods as complementary approaches.
